About Our Instructors
All instructors hold the minimum rank of 1st Dan Black Belt and are trained to teach by emphasizing positive feedback and character building methods of instruction. Our instructors bring a great variety of martial arts knowledge, teaching skills, and life experience to the school for the benefit of our students.
Carlos Omar Garcia, 5th Dan-Kukkiwon certified Black Belt
Master Garcia has been in the martial arts for over 30 years, he holds blackbelts in various martial arts including: Tae Kwon Do, 5th Dan (currently a candidate for 6th Dan promotion); Hosin-Hapkido, 5th Dan; Traditional Hapkido, 2nd Dan; and Judo, 1st Dan. Mr.Garcia has also studied and cross-trained in Tai Chi Chuan, American Kenpo, Chinese Kempo, Okinawan Karate, Kendo, Combat Hapkido, and Brazilian Jujitsu. Master Garcia has been an instructor since 1987. Mr. Garcia was a competitor at many regional and State level tournaments during the 1980s and early 1990s. Mr. Garcia won various awards for sparring (point-style and Olympic-style), forms, and weapons competition. The highlight of Mr. Garcia’s tournament career was his 1991 Silver Medal in Forms and Bronze Medal in Sparring at the Texas State Taekwondo Championships– by placing in both events, Mr. Garcia earned the right to compete at the 1991 National Championships. Master Garcia has been employed as a state felony prosecutor since 1997: 79th Judicial District Attorney's Office, 1997-2008; Kleberg and Kenedy Counties District Attorney's Office, 2009-present. Mr. Garcia is also a NRA Certified Instructor in the following areas: Pistol and Refuse To Be A Victim Program.
Jerry Galvan, 4th Dan-Kukkiwon certified Black Belt
Master Galvan brings over 30 years of martial arts experience to this institute. He began his study under the late Dr. DeShik Kim (9th Dan in Judo and Tae Kwon Do) at the University of Texas, Austin. Mr. Galvan continued his studies in the arts of Tae Kwon Do, Moo Duk Kwon and Universal Hapkido under the direction of Master Instructors Samuel and Saul Saldana. Mr. Galvan has received numerous awards in State competition; he has taught throughout South Texas; and is proud to say that several of his students have gone on to build their own schools. A former peace officer, Master Galvan is also credited for his past work teaching law enforcement students the skills of defensive tactics at Del Mar College's Law Enforcement Academy. Master Galvan has appeared in the popular television series Walker, Texas Ranger with Grandmaster Chuck Norris. Mr. Galvan is the Owner/Operator of Jerry's Restaurant in San Diego, Texas.
Guadalupe "Lupe" Lopez, Jr., 2nd Dan Black Belt
Mr. Lopez has been involved with the martial arts for over 25 years, he has multiple black belts, including: Tae Kwon Do, 2nd Dan; Hosin-Hapkido, 2nd Dan; and Yoshin Ryu Juijitsu, 1st Dan. Mr. Lopez has competed in forms and sparring at both regional and state level tournaments. Mr. Lopez is a former reserve peace officer and brings that experience to his teaching.
Johnny Rodriguez, 2nd Dan Black Belt
Mr. Rodriguez began his studies in Aikido and Shotokan Karate as a young boy. In 2002, he came to Chon-Ji Martial Arts Center seeking to continue his martial arts journey. Mr. Rodriguez holds black belts in Hosin-Hapkido, 2nd Dan; Yoshin Ryu Jiujitsu; Aikido; and Shotokan. Mr. Rodriguez has participated in many martial arts seminars over the years in an effort to continue his training. Mr. Rodriguez is currently working on the requirements for 3rd Dan in Hosin-Hapkido.
Jason Bradfute, 2nd Dan Black Belt
Mr. Bradfute started taking classes at Chon-Ji Martial Arts Center on January 23, 2007, and before long, he was attending his own classes and assisting in the classes for the younger students. Mr. Bradfute's hunger for more led him to the award of his 1st Dan Black Belt in Hosin-Hapkido on October 28, 2009 and his 2nd Dan on June 28, 2011. Throughout his studies, Mr. Bradfute has competed in regional tournaments and has cross-trained in Tae Kwon Do (1st Dan Black Belt), Koryo Gumdo, Kyusho (pressure points) and Iaido.
Cosme Castillo, 1st Dan Black Belt
Mr. Castillo received his 1st Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2003, from Master Pete Molina. Mr. Castillo has been cross-training at Chon-Ji Martial Arts Center since 2004 and has brought our students the benefit of his experience as a peace officer. Mr. Castillo is currently a captain with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department.
Oscar Medrano, 1st Dan Black Belt
Mr. Medrano earned his 1st Dan Black Belt from Chon-Ji Martial Arts Center on May 16, 2006; that date, however, does not do justice to Mr. Medrano's martial arts experience. Mr. Medrano's martial arts journey spans over 25 years. Mr. Medrano has also competed in regional tournaments and cross-trained in Hapkido and Traditional Weapons.
Audelia Espinoza, Provisional Black Belt
Mrs. Espinoza began her martial arts studies in Tae Kwon Do and Modern Arnis under Claudia Tapia (2nd Dan Tae Kwon Do) in early 2002. Mrs. Espinoza continued her studies under Master Garcia in 2003 and was awarded her Provisional Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do on August 16, 2006. During her martial arts journey, Mrs. Espinoza has competed in regional and national level tournaments and cross-trained in Hapkido, Modern Arnis, Traditional Weapons, and Kyusho.
